Gail Brennan, Sydney Morning Herald

…Abrahams sustained an interlocking two-handed trill…leaving the piano notes pelting in the room like hail.

Mitchell Whitelaw, RealTime

It's easy to think of the piano as a rational, mechanical instrument, a grid of notes, an ordered expanse of pitch relationships; more so since the keyboard has become the default user-interface for electronic instruments. The key is a switch - up; down; on; off. Not for Chris Abrahams, whose playing is less about the grid than the continuum, the fusing of attacks and resonances into masses, flows and arcs. In the opening track, From a Tower, Lost as Heat, one of these molten shapes call out over and over, changing and building before finally, four minutes in, it's answered and broken by two tiny mute chords. Throughout this disk Abrahams arranges scant handfulls of gestures into tense, suspended forms which develop, unfurl and sometimes collapse, but never lose their moment to moment intensity...Very beautiful
