“Hope you enjoy the album as much as we did making it. Its a happy leap of faith where we put the energy and love of the music up front and centre. BUSTAMENTO!”
- Nicky Bomba
Nicky Bomba is one of Australia’s busiest and most highly respected musicians. He has built a solid reputation via many projects including writing and performing with his band Bomba, conducting the Melbourne Ska Orchestra, playing drums on John Butler’s award-winning “Sunrise over Sea” and "April Uprising", to being the Artistic Producer for the Multicultural Arts Victoria ‘Visible’ project.
Nicky jumps on his musical boat again to deliver a party filled island adventure with his new band BUSTAMENTO - a tropical shaking six piece that pays homage to the upbeat rhythms of the Caribbean, covering the Calypso, Mento, Early Reggae and Ska styles.
‘Intrepid Adventures to the Lost Riddim Islands’ finds Nicky sourcing both classic and rare tunes, and writing a whole swag of new songs in keeping with the form. Recorded using old school techniques by award winning engineer Robin Mai and produced by Nicky Bomba, the songs were played live to capture the chemistry of the band which has existed in many different forms for over 15 years.
Nicky recently received the highly prestigious Music Fellowship Award from Australia Council and this album is one of many planned under that banner. As conductor of the Melbourne Ska Orchestra, drummer for the John Butler Trio and now with BUSTAMENTO, the next couple of years spells an exciting time in his musical journey.
Nicky Bomba's Bustamento hit the road this June & July for the
'Intrepid Advetures' Tour.
Along with this brand new album (in it's stunning hard-book presentation), Vitamin Records is excited to announce the re-release of Nicky Bomba’s mesmerizing back catalogue of titles, including ‘Learn To Breathe’, ‘Solar Plexus’, ‘Planet Juice’, ‘Limestone’ (with Joe Camilleri), ‘Bomba Vs Laroz’, ‘Population’ and much more coming soon.
