Melatonin play a blend of rootsy dub and rocksteady grooves to challenge your mind and move your feet. With an eco-social justice conscience, backed by musicians who have performed with the likes of Aretha Franklin and James Brown, Melatonin dish up an exciting blend of decadent beats with a point.
Forming in 1999, and drawing comparisons to the likes of 'Fat Freddys Drop' and 'The Clash', Melatonin has cultivated a strong following that has seen the band release 3 EP’s and one album, receive regular airplay, and appear at some of Australia’s premier venues, crazed warehouse and outdoor chill and dance parties.
Melatonin are all environmental activists and survivors, and have been active through dozens of community and business projects, like Tranceplant, Summer of Sustainability and cranking it out through our own Solar Sounds System. Members of Melatonin run ‘Creative Environment’, a company that assists Australian festivals (Big Day Out, Falls, Meredith, Golden Plains etc) and venues with measuring environmental impact and reducing energy usage.
With new tracks, remixes and a 4th E.P to be launched nationally in October 2010 with strong publicity, Melatonin bring a party atmosphere of upbeat skanking Australian reggae and rocksteady to engage and enthrawl.
Perfecting their local Australian reggae sound, Melatonin bring a strong antipodean story home to us all.
